April 25, 2014

From the desk of your team....

Dear friends

As always, we had an interesting and busy week. The Faculty & Staff Appreciation Luncheon was held successfully on Wednesday, April 23 in the FAC Atrium.  A big thank you to all the volunteers!  We are grateful to the Korean community for decorating the atrium with amazing flower arrangements and making the venue look great. A heartfelt thank you to the Japanese community for their performance.  It was greatly appreciated. They performed several times during the luncheon, and most of the staff got to watch them.  We also want to thank all the parents who contributed desserts for the event. The dessert table was a big hit!

As this school year is winding down, we are already planning ahead for the 2014-15 school year. Please see the linked document outlining all the positions available for next school year--MS and HS Grade Representatives, SAISA Coordinator, New Parent Coordinator, and Country Coordinators. Please take a moment to review it and sign up for whatever position appeals to you.  (ES Classroom Representative positions will be filled in August.)  This a wonderful opportunity to join the community and show your support.

Our last monthly PTA meeting of the year is on Tuesday, May 6.  We do hope you attend because we have some important business items to complete.  Elections for the 2014-15 PTA Executive Committee will take place during this meeting. If you are interested in joining the committee, please complete the attached form. We will also vote on the proposed new bylaws that were first presented during our April meeting.  A copy of the proposed bylaws is available on the PTA blog. Hard copies will be available at the meeting.

Lastly, the Parent Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast will be take place on Tuesday May 6, following the last PTA meeting. We cordially invite everyone to attend.  We have moved the event on campus this year so that more parent volunteers can attend and so that the Administration can play a part as well.  We all contribute to support AISC community in so many ways. You may have helped in your child's classroom, volunteered in the library, housed visiting student-athletes during tournaments, or helped in a hundred other ways.  We want to celebrate our parent volunteers, and hope you will join us on May 6.

Have a wonderful weekend!

PTA By Laws - For Association Approval

During this month's meeting, there was a lot of information that was delivered to the community.  Some main points were about the PTA Task Force.  The Task Force was put together in early March to revise the PTA ByLaws to align them with the Strategic Plan.

The Task Force is made up of the following people: Susan Scales, Christina Ma, Lica Kamio, Shanthi Giridhar, Jennifer Nordin.  The main take-aways from the Task Force are the following:
1) The name of the AISC PTA will change to the AISC PCA - Parent Community Association.
2) All parents or guardians with children enrolled at AISC are members of the PCA. There is no fees associated with the association.
3)  The PCA wants the works of the PCA to align with AISC Mission and Core Values.
