Dear all,

so finally this week we brought into our team the last, but not least, executive member!

We are very  happy to welcome Philippa Johnston as Vice President of PCA 2014/2015!

The 4 of us will be present and continue working together from next Tuesday the 2nd of September at the Monthly Meeting at the FAC: please don’t miss it, we have so much to tell you!

The UN Day is quickly approaching and we’d like to have as much inputs as possible to make it memorable as it is meant to be.
The UN Day involves all the school community; students, teachers and assistants, school staff and security, parents and guardians; the preparations of the event for some countries started already this summer…we really love to see all our smiling kids happy and proud to celebrate their native countries.
The event is combined with the Peace International Day this year and the mission is to make the children and ourself aware about the importance of living in a Peaceful world in absence of war and violence.
Each of us can do a little to make this happen: on that day each of us can observe his own “ceasefire”. Million of peaceful people can make the difference!

Today, Friday 29th, in the morning the security team will conduct a test of our emergency SMS system to tho whole community: if you do not get this test SMS, please write to securitymanager@aisch.org.

Next Monday there is no school, we hope you all will enjoy this longer week-end and looking forward seeing you on Tuesday, we send

Best regards

Dear Friends,

another week went through and we still miss a member of our team: are you really sure you don't want to be part of this exciting and diverse group of fantastic mothers, being involved in many interesting activities aimed to make our kids feel part of a special environment...as it is the American School of Chennai?
There are sure many other ways you can help us..by volunteering for each event the school organises, but right now.....WE WANT A VICE PRESIDENT! Please come and join us!

During this week I saw many new faces around the school and I introduced myself to some of them, I discovered who my kids' new school mates are and I felt as always very happy to be in Chennai meeting "old" friends.

I'm sure the PCA will bring us a lot of busy days this year and I'm sure we will enjoy them.
If you are a new parent in school and have questions about something you don't understand in Chennai, do not hesitate stop one of us and ask: being in a different state, away from home and from your comfort zone is hard and we are happy to help and give a hand full of good advices.

Our next coming big Event is the UN Day on September 19 and after that Diwali Mela on October 11: you will soon hear a lot about these celebrations, and, if you want, you can help in make them memorable!

Wishing you a good and relaxing week end.

Dear Friends,
it was wonderful to see so many of our community members in the first PCA meeting.
Thank you for your time and please keep supporting us in finding the fourth member of our team, yes...the hunt is still on!
We really appreciate seeing a lot of you attending the meeting to offer their time to help us out and to wish us good luck for the coming school year!

The meeting highlighted the next very important events for our big community:

  1. the Welcome Back Picnic on 23rd of August
  2. the UN International Peace Day on 19th of September
The Welcome Back Picnic is a very nice opportunity for adult and children to meet new friends and to look around the school discovering all the improvement done during the Summer Vacation!
Food and drinks will be available from 1:00pm to 4:00pm and the kids will find many games and entertainment all around the vast playground!
Come and enjoy the day!

The UN International Peace Day is the "event" of our school! This is the day when the school celebrates the Peace and the fabulous countries we all represent, by organizing a big parade of children dressed in typical attire in the morning, giving also to each Country Coordinator the opportunity to stage stands in the Gym to bring our kids to learn something new about each culture by visiting the spaces guided by the teachers!

The event is mostly organized for the kids and therefore we need the parents that are not in charge to look after the stand to leave the area and the food free primarily for the visitors!
All Country Coordinators will as soon as possible receive an email with the date chosen for the venue's coordination meeting to fix all details!

Do not forget to check now and then the Page Activities for Adult in this Blog, where you can probably find something to do that fits your interest!

From your PCA team that's all for now.

Mano, Susan and Silvia are at your complete disposal for any information of help needed.

Welcome, or welcome back, to AISC from your 2014-15 PCA Executive Committee.

If you are a parent or guardian of a child at AISC, you are automatically a member of the Parent Community Association.
There are no dues, but we need your help to run our activities.
We are an organization of volunteers.  Giving some of your time is a great way to meet people and learn more about the School.
You are encouraged to join in the planning, the doing, and the fun.
With our adoption of new by-laws last spring (linked in the side bar), the PCA has a renewed focus on supporting our entire community –students, teachers, and parents.
We hope to be a resource for families settling into AISC and Chennai, and to promote a spirit of community within our School family.  The PCA encourages activities to learn more about our host culture and the diverse cultures within our community.  Much of our programming will be social, but we will include some fundraising for the benefit of our students.
Funds raised in 2013-4 will support AISC’s Visiting Authors program in 2014-5.
We donated almost 9 lakh rupees.  These monies will help AISC host authors who will work with our students from Pre-K through High School on the writing process.  Many thanks to all of you, and to last year’s Committee, for making the fundraisers such a success.

THANK YOU to everyone has volunteered already this year!  Please see the links in the side bar for the full 20014-5 PCA team:  Country, Grade, and Event Representatives.
There are still a few open positions… we could use your help…
One of our leadership team was transferred in June, so we are looking for a new Treasurer.
Please contact any one of us for more information, and please consider volunteering.

We meet the first Tuesday of most months, September through May.  The initial gathering this year will be Tuesday, 12 August, at 8:45am, in the Black Box Theater (BBT), across from Main Reception.
We look forward to meeting you!

Your PCA Team,

Mano, Susan and Silvia
