The PCA is Happy to Welcome Maya Thiagarajan to speak at our PCA Meeting. Please join us on Monday, February 4th in the Hall of Light at 2:30.
As parents, we're constantly told that adaptability,
resilience, optimism, and risk-taking are important skills for the 21st
century. In this interactive workshop, educator and author Maya Thiagarajan
will give parents usable tools to help children build these skills. She will
also encourage parents to explore the fine balance between protecting children
from harm and preparing them to independently navigate a complex world.
Bio
A
global educator, Maya Thiagarajan has taught in India, Singapore, and the US.
She earned a BA in English from Middlebury College and a Masters in Education
Policy from Harvard University.
Maya began her
teaching career with Teach For America and then spent ten years teaching
high school English at top private schools in the US. She later moved to
Singapore, where she taught in the IB program at The United World College of
South East Asia (UWC).
Struck by
the different approaches to education and parenting that she encountered in
Asia, Maya began to interview Chinese and Indian parents living in Singapore.
Using her own experiences as well as the stories of parents whom she
interviewed, Maya wrote a highly acclaimed book titled Beyond the Tiger Mom:
East-West Parenting for the Global Age.
Maya is a
consultant and advisor to a number of schools. In 2017, she relocated to
Chennai, India, to pursue her dream of starting a company that would help schools
recruit, develop, and inspire teachers. She is currently the Founder and
Education Director at TREE.

Please Help!
The
Athletics and Activities Department is seeking help providing host homes for next
week's Badminton and Tennis tournament. They currently need spots for 26
male and 25 female high school students. If needed, the school helps with
transportation, and can even provide temporary mattresses to put on the floor
for use by the visiting students. Hosts need to provide breakfast each
day (though it can be a simple one like cereal, and does not need to be cooked)
and two dinners. Please consider helping out for next weekend, or commit
to two other events that are coming up by completing this
form.
Teaching & Learning Coffee on February 7 at 8:45 to 9:45
a.m. (BBT) – Dan Love, Director of Teaching and Learning
The purpose of the Director of Teaching and Learning Coffees
is to: celebrate academic program, disseminate information to parents, and
provide opportunity for question and answers to the Director of Teaching and
Learning. To further that goal, I invite you to come to the February 7
coffee to understand the value of the Vision for an AISC Learner in the
classroom. We will look at the behaviors that comprise AISC Vision
for an AISC Learner.
The annual PCA Ball will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2019. This year the theme will be
Viva Las Vegas. Channel the glamour and glitz that is Vegas when
purchasing your outfit and accessories for the big event. *Please note there will not be any
gambling (real or fake) allowed at the event.
The PCA Ball traditionally hosts a Silent Auction that includes experiences and country baskets for
guests to bid on. The proceeds from the silent auction go to the PCA Distinguished Visitors Fund,
which brings in visiting experts and authors from around the world to inspire AISC students and
families!
