September 26, 2014

Dear all,
The “Festival of Lights” is just around the corner and we will soon be busy preparing our homes and school for the festivities to come!  Please join us for an evening of family, crafts, food, song & dance, and friends.  The AISC Diwali Mela will be Saturday, 11 October, from 5pm, in our School’s own Fine Arts Center.
Tickets are available from next Wednesday, the 1st of October.  They will include food & soft drinks (menu from North & South India) and performances by student and parents groups.  Cultural and folk arts are the highlights this year:  there will be a craft mela with artisans from Chennai Crafters, offering block printing of cards, clay miniature food, diya painting, terracotta jewellery decorating, paper lantern making, mehendi and others.  To compensate these professional artisans for their time and materials, craft activities will be offered for a small fee (less than 100 Rs each).
Please come!  You are encouraged to wear a sari, kurta, lungi, other festive Indian clothing, or festive clothing from your country.
Any questions, or if you would like to help with the planning or doing of this big event (from ushering, to assisting with stage performances, or helping oversee set up), please send email to PCA@aisch.org.  We would also like to include a few more performances.
Signing up for performances are closed - THANK YOU  everyone who has signed up for this fantastic event. We very much look forward to seeing the performances on the 11th October.
New for sale at the iHub : AISC blue, International Minded T-shirts, as seen at UN Day. If you missed it during first sale, you can purchase it at I-Hub now!

Swimming Saisa update: our super swimmer children are practicing 4/5 days a week to get best timing for the swimming competition that will take place on our campus from 29 October to 2 November 2014.
As you probably know we will have to find housing to the visiting athletes, that will be 210: WE NEED YOU!
Check the announcement below if you want to assist us in any way and do attend the next PCA meeting on Tuesday 7th October at 8:45 in BBT, to have detailed information from Ron Thomson about that, please.

At the October Meeting we will also present the budget for the PCA’s events and activities this year, answer questions, and have a vote of the membership to accept the budget.

Wishing you a beautiful and restful long weekend, we thank you for all the support you would provide us!

Sincerely
Your PCA team

Dear all,

this was another fun and busy week for most of us, a challenge against time, weather and traffic, to be ready for a Friday celebration of our beautiful countries!
Our huge thank you goes to all of you that made it possible: being so many different people gathering under a big hosting country how India is, receiving daily "gifts" from each others is a sensation that needs to be celebrated in the proper way!
The best way is to show our kids that we care and that we are lucky to be in this diverse and creative environment; we believe we are giving the right message.
We are sure you could feel the passion and the good intentions if you had a chance to go around the Pavillion today!
Surely all the kids had a lot of fun today, as well did the grown up parents.

Last but not least we wish to send a hearty thank you to the staff supporting us everyday: from Sanja, Angeline, Sonia, Kim Bane and all technicians.

The Candle Light Ceremony in the Auditorium on Thursday afternoon was amazing: all parents and children dressed in white with a candle in the hand singing “This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine, let it shine, let it shine…”
We hope that the Spirit of Peace and Union that accompanied us during this week will guide our path through the whole year.

Wishing you a restful weekend,
Sincerely
Your PCA Executive Team

Greetings at the end of another busy week at school!
We are looking forward to several big events.
Many volunteers have been working together to bring them to you, and we are grateful for their help.

UN International Peace Day – Friday 19 Sept
At the end of Peace Week, our children will participate in a celebration of all of the countries here at AISC. The PCA is pleased to help sponsor a country pavilion. Community members from 20 countries have chosen to put up a table with information, a taste of a typical food, and perhaps a small souvenir of their country, so our children may get to know them better. Do stop by the gym to see it, but remember that we need to serve all of our children first. Thank you to the many volunteers who have spent weeks planning this event, and to those who will make it happen. T shirts will be on sale at drop off and pick up times next week outside Main Reception. We have a new, blue shirt which celebrates AISC’s International Mindedness. Sizes child 8 through adult XL; 350 Rs each. Net proceeds toward our annual donation to school.

Diwali Mela is coming second week of October! We are planning fabulous performances from community members. We will have dinner – we’re working on a tasting menu of the cuisines of India. All of this will take place on the AISC campus. Wear your sari or sherwani and join the festivities. More information will follow in the next PCA Meeting. See school in a whole new light.
Volunteer opportunity! please email PCA@aisch.org if you’d like to help with this event.

Call for Performances for Diwali Mela : we would like to treat our audience to an hour of singing, dancing, reciting, music, etc. Since the event celebrates Diwali, preference will be given to those with a theme of "light" or a related Diwali theme. If your performance does not have such a theme, and you would like to participate anyway, please let us know.
Timing should be about 5 minutes each - longer or shorter can be included, however.
* Please click on the link below and fill in the form if you like to participate.

Happenings Around School
Next week is Freedom from Chemical Dependency Week in the Middle and High Schools. Ask your children what they’ve heard.
School wide, Monday begins with the International Dot Day and ends with Peace Day on Thursday and UN Day on Friday: follow carefully Head of School Notes for more information.
There are meetings of the AISC Association (you are a member) and the AISC Board of Directors over the next few weeks - details are in the calendar and Head’s Notes. Please consider attending. This is your school. By attending these meetings, you can find out how it is run, its current projects, meet your representatives, and provide them your input.
Note that PCA lists local events and activities of interest to our school community in the sidebar.
We can only list what we know about! We rely on you to send them to us.

A restful weekend to you.

We remain yours sincerely,

Dear friends,

what a week!!!

The full PCA executive team is sailing full steam toward the first and very important school year events organization:

UN Day - we realize that at this point all of you are aware about the happening: you can perceive rumors and feel excitement around the corridors; you can meet groups of people whispering secretly about costumes, songs, food and souvenirs they will propose at their stands on the 19th of September.
UN Day if for sure a learning event for the kids but is also a beautiful moment for us "big kids" to feel in our Mother Country for a day and to show the others how much we love our territory, food and music!
We are receiving a lot of support from school and because every year we try to bring news and fresh ideas to what we put effort in, I can tell that we will all enjoy...we are really looking forward to it!

Diwali Mela - we already turned on the organization machine for this big event that will take us a lot of time to put together but we are sure that, as Sha Patel as Event Coordinator said, "with our sincere intention, passion and great effort, success, happiness and satisfaction will definitely follow"

Grade Representative Meeting - we would like to thank our 14 parents who attended on Wednesday 3rd September the first meeting, to talk about which are our respective responsibilities and who is in the middle to help and coordinate!
As always we found very valuable and capable parents who cares not only for their own children but also for the entire wonderful community as we are!
You will all hear more about them.

Now, if you have time give a look at the side pages, you will find news, what is going on in Chennai and interesting activities for adult to take part.

We all wish you a wonderful week end.

Your PCA Team
