November 21, 2014

Dear Friends,

Can you believe it's almost the end of November? Where is the time going? However, there are still many things happening at AISC before we head off in December.

LAPATHON AT SCHOOL:
Date: Saturday, November 22nd, 2014
Time: 7:00 am - 12:00 pm
Location: Main Field

Global Issues Network (GIN) is hosting a Cancer Lap-A-Thon at our school on November 22nd to raise money for the Cancer Institute in Chennai. There will be a breakfast potluck afterwards in the cafeteria. To participate, you must get sponsors to pay you for the amount of laps that you will run around the field. You can walk, run, jog, crawl, whatever, as long as you complete as many laps as you please to raise money for cancer research. Pick up a form from the High School, Middle School, and Elementary School office to start getting sponsors. If you have any questions please contact: slovishniakri@aisch.org or dmanasvi@aisch.org

Also as part of this event we are asking all participants to bring in a food item for 6 people so that we can have “potluck” or shared breakfast after the end of the final event.
NAMMA BEACH NAMMA CHENNAI:

Because our Community likes to make the difference regarding the cure for the environment, that we all believe it's a bit neglected from the Indian Culture, we suggest you to take part of the beautiful initiative to clean the beach together!
NAMMA BEACH NAMMA CHENNAI, is organising a beach clean up on Sunday November 30th from 6am till 9am together with The Nature Trust and the schoolchildren of the ADVENT Christian School of Injambakkam.

Thank you also to Vraj Thakore, who was leading our curious parents in a City Trip through the complicated streets of T-Nagar, ending the tour with a typical indian lunch! Hope you all had fun!

PCA BALL 2015

We already mentioned that the PCA Ball will no longer take place on the 7th March.  The new date is Saturday 18th April. If you have not already done so please mark this date in your diary. It is a fun and sociable fundraising evening which you will be hearing more about in the New Year.

Country Baskets at the PCA Ball

The PCA Ball as well as a social event is also a fundraising evening and ONE of the ways of raising money is through the auctioning of COUNTRY BASKETS. Your Country Representative will be in contact with you about this in more detail. Please do bare in mind that if you are returning to your home country or having relatives visiting over the festive period perhaps you could ask them to bring a souvenir from your country for your Country Basket. Items such as food, tea, coffee, wine, chocolate, tea towels, books and other such items make up a fabulous and creative basket.

To make this fabulous evening possible we do need to ask for your help, without it none of this is possible!. If you would like to join us too make this event one to remember please go the attached link where you find a signing up sheet to give your availability on 5 different Committees.

November 14, 2014

Dear Friends,

Monsoon season is high in Chennai,  we can save some energy in air conditioning at home, and for the ones who love rain, it will be a cool period!

Looks like a pretty quite moment for the PCA...after a lot of hectic activity we can take it easier, with more time to plan the organization of the PCA Ball: we already started looking for Hotels who can offer the best prices for the happening. At the beginning of next week we will have a meeting with the Country Coordinators and Grade Representatives in order to collect fresh ideas and as many inputs as possible to be able to give you the best Party ever!
The members of the PCA set a very optimistic target of participation and we expect to involve the highest number of parents ....so don't let us down, as we are booking a huge party hall!

This is going to be the top social event in ( and out of) the school community and we believe the Ball must be an appointment to aim to and to remember in the years to come.
You will hear much more about it!

You can help us:
1 - saving the Date - 18th of April 2015
2 - bring back something good and characteristic from your home country, if you plan to go home for Winter break - we will ask to each Country Coordinator one baskets of goods to sell on Silent Auction
3 - Be ready to dress glamourously and to shake a leg!

What’s on the AISC Preschool Horizon?

If you are interested in the future planning and programming of our Preschools, we invite you to join us on Monday, November 17, 2014 for a World Cafe conversation. We are seeking input and ideas as we move ahead in revisiting our Early Childhood programs. There are two sessions planned, so pick the time that works best for you:

Timings: Nov 17  8:45 - 10:15 or 1:45 - 3:15
Location: Hall of Light

PCA City Tour - T-Nagar

We will meet in front of the Main Office. We will leave from the school at 9:00 sharp!

November 7, 2014

Dear all,

We have the PCA Notice-board by the main entrance finally on service: it will be monthly and weekly updated and we will have soon the one by the elementary entrance also running. Have a look on them now and then.

It was nice to see everyone who attended the monthly PCA meeting on Tuesday.  We had a wrap up of Diwali Mela (thanks went out earlier) and the SAISA swim meet.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this huge event:  those who hosted, those who organized (baskets, swimmers, medals, volunteers), those who brought food, those who took photos or delivered results, and those who came out and cheered on all of the teams.

We also started talking about the PCA Ball, planned for 18th April, 2015.  We’ll be asking for donations for the silent auction, and for corporate sponsors – more details shortly.

We heard from Kim Bane, Director of Teaching and Learning (Kim Bane), on Thursday.  She arranged updates from coordinators for Service Learning, EAL, Literacy, Math, and the library’s “Mother Tongue” project.  If you missed this session and would like to see the slides, please contact Kim.

And best wishes to the cast and crew (and advisors) on their final performance of the
first-ever Middle School musical, “Once on This Island”!

Tickets for the today's performance are still available, also at the door...if you forgot to buy the tickets and would like to come, please do so.
Doors will close at 7:00pm, today.

See you at the Head of School’s Town Hall meeting on Thursday the 13th.
