Koyambedu Market Outing

Have you ever wondered where all the fruits, flowers, and vegetables all over the city come from? They come from Koyambedu Market, the largest wholesale market in Chennai. Flowers and fresh produce come from all over Chennai to the marketplace, where local vendors sell their goods directly to merchants across the city. Some people even line up as early as 4:00 am to select the best merchandise for their shops and stalls.

We will journey to Koyambedu on Monday, December 9. Meet us in the courtyard at school at 8:45 where we will board the bus to the Alandur Train Station. We will ride the Metro to Koyambedu and take a short walk into the marketplace. The market covers over one square kilometer, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes. Closed-toe shoes are recommended, as the market can be a bit messy. You will be able to shop as well, but remember you will have to carry whatever you purchase. This is also an excellent opportunity to work on your photography skills. The merchants are used to photographers walking the lanes and will happily pose for photos, including selfies.

If you would like to join us on this outing, please sign up here.

PCA Giving Tree

There will be a Giving Tree up in the High, Middle and Elementary School - with boxes placed in front of them to receive your gifts. They will be up from November 19th till December 12th.

Tis the Season for Giving!

It's that time of the year again! Christmas is coming - the New Year will soon be upon us. We plan for travel, Christmas goodies, dancing shoes, and holiday cheer.

As we get ready to energize ourselves for the coming year - it would be good to also include some giving and give back to less privileged members of our community.

This year we have collaborated with organizations that work with children, senior citizens, and animals. The organizations we are supporting are

  • Bala Vihar - Children who are mentally challenged
  • Assissi Illam - Children
  • Cheshire Home - Senior citizens
  • Atmalayam - Senior citizens
  • Blue Cross  - Animal welfare
  • Tree Foundation - Elephant and Turtle Rescue
We are inviting you to gift the following items:

  • Toys
  • Books - new and gently used
  • Sports equipment - balls, racquets, etc.
  • Dry Rations - rice, dal, oats, millets (ragi, jowar, barley, etc.), biscuits, cereals, dry fruits, etc.
  • Blankets, shawls, sweaters, sheets
  • Bags, back packs, new pencils, or paint kits
  • Art and craft supplies, blank note books, and drawing books
  • Clothes - new or barely used
  • Pet food, pet toys, collars, feeding bowls, water bowls
  • Soaps, shampoos, Dettol, hand sanitizer

We encourage you to purchase new clothes and gift them. Good quality new inner shirts are particularly helpful for senior citizens.

We will accept used clothes - however, these should be clothes that you would be proud to wear yourselves. Please do not donate t-shirts, innerwear, or any sort of clothes that are soiled or not in near perfect condition. All clothes should be laundered, ironed, and placed in bags.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the PCA.

Hello AISC parents,

As we prepare to celebrate 25 years of AISC, we would love your input to help us decide how best to commemorate this milestone. This survey will help us gather ideas and the communal narrative to celebrate our rich history, present context, and hopeful future. Please take 5 minutes to share your thoughts and ideas with us. The survey will close on Sunday, December 1, 2019.

Very Best,
AISC Communications Team
