*** Change of time for the PTA Meeting ***

Date:   October 1, 2013
Venue:  Black Box Theater
Time:  10:00 a.m.

From the desk of your team....

Dear Friends

We are almost at the end of September and if you are an Elementary parent, you would have had the wonderful experience of hearing what your child did till now from them.  A world of colors, stars and learning from their eyes was presented.

PTA executive members have been working on the upcoming UN day celebrations, Diwali  Mela and the First SAISA event all in October and early November.  Please talk to the coordinators and be part of the learning experience in your child’s life.

We would like your input on one of the major events – Diwali Mela.  Some of you might have already received the survey from your coordinators or may have gotten information on this from your friends.  As a stakeholder in the process, we have been asked to express our opinion and we request you all to participate in the survey which is on this page.

The Elementary school will be celebrating Gandhi Jayanthi being the birth celebration of Mahatma Gandhi – Father of India with a special assembly on 1st of October.  Hence the PTA meeting will be held in the Black Box Theater @ 10 am on that day and not at 845 am.

Have a great weekend. And don’t forget the PTA meeting on 1st October at 10 am.  See you all there.

Diwali Mela Options Survey

There has been much discussion in regards to the Diwali Mela. Please allow the Diwali Planning Team to explain what is being asked of community members.

I am writing on behalf of the Diwali Mela planning team to appeal to you to cast a vote as the venue of the Diwali Mela.  The theme this year is to experience the essence of Diwali , which includes: fireworks, dances, lights, music and food!

The question in everyone’s mind will be why is the Team asking for this opinion? For Diwali to be experienced in its true essence, all five points should be performed. Our team would want the parent community to experience Diwali as it is celebrated in families across the country. Not all of these items can take place at school, in particular the fireworks. Thus, the Team put together two options: either do the event in school or take it outside.  If we take it off campus, the costs can be higher.

Thus, we wanted to present all options to all of you and get your vote. Based on your vote, we will execute the event.

To access the survey, please click HERE.

Results of the Survery are HERE.

Dear Friends

It is amazing to see how fast the week flew by.  A huge thanks to all those parents who were diligently helping to sell the tickets for the visiting artist concert.

We had a meeting with all the Coordinators for the UN day and an amazing response.  We also had a good turnout for the Diwali meeting to brainstorm.  And to the community at large, please join us and make the events enjoyable for all of us.

The MS coffee morning this week was on co-teaching model adopted by the school this year.   Please see MS principal notes on this.  If you are not sure or want more details, please take time and talk to the administration.  There are lots of channels available for communication - grade reps, country coordinators, teachers, principals, head of school,....   As they say in the movie Harry Potter, help is always given to those who ask in AISC!!!

We had the bi annual meeting of the Association - you all might have seen this in the calendar.  This is open to all the parents to attend.  We had an overview of the growth of AISC in the past year in terms of facilities, performance of students and other aspects.   Please refer to HOS notes for additional information.

Enjoy the concert this evening if you are attending and have a great weekend!!

From the desk of your team....

Dear Friends,

What a week!  So many activities in the school and add to it the wonderful rains of Chennai.  If you had kids across the school then you would have been shuttling between the various presentations.  And of course the MAP testing is on.  Parents of second graders must have had some hilarious experiences.  If you happen to know some, share the fun.

There was a call for volunteers for two activities: ticket sales for the performing artist and the international DOT day.   Thanks to all those who were able to give sometime to these two events.  The ticket sale will continue next week as well.  So look forward to having more people collaborate.

UN Day is fast approaching and the country coordinators are gearing to put up the best of their countries on display.  If you would like to be part of the team, please write to us.  You can choose to help out a friend irrespective of the nationality.  It's a great way to celebrate the spirit of UN Day.

Have a great weekend.

From the desk of your team....

Dear Friends

A short week and really went off so fast.  Thank you to all those who made it to the PTA meeting.  We had Michael Cathey, Chairman explaining the role of Board of Directors in AISC.  And we had Jeremy Willette our librarian giving us a brief of what is new in the school libraries.  60000 volumes and ebooks to top it - wow that is a lot of resource that is available.

We had a presentation from the consultants on the writers workshop being rolled out in the school during the Parent Curriculum Coffee yesterday.

UN day is fast approaching and you all would be hearing about it from different sources.   Like one new parent said " why cant all the small communities just join hands and have it as rest of the world?" So we would like to ask you the whole community the same.  Why not? The whole idea is to make our children best citizen for the world.  Leave it for you all to ponder on that.

Have a great weekend.
