February 1

We can all make a difference if we all "Say No to Pollution"

Over the X-mas break I finally started my project to clean up the beach near our house. But before reaching the beach I had to attack the street and talk with the people and try to convince them to help me.

I photographed the locals in my street and used their pictures in the banners I made to motivate them to help with the project.
Little by little people are helping me. I hope I also get them to believe it is important. My husband and I bought concrete rings and installed them as dustbins at the beach and at the temple in my street. I organize that the cooperation is emptying them weekly. I made different banners and put them up in the street and at the entrance of the beach. (6 in total).
Nearly every morning I go to the beach and collect trash. If I do that for an hour it is like doing a workout in the gym and I am doing something to help our nature.

You might think I am fighting a lost battle here in Chennai but I believe if every body would do something we would live in a cleaner Chennai; I have to get more people involved and also local people with good contacts to get it working on a longer term. But I started small and if feels good to do at least something.

January 11

Hello Everyone,

Wishing you all a happy, healthy and prosperous 2013.

Welcome back to another exciting quarter. I am sure you all had a restful, well deserved winter break spending time with your loved ones.

A warm welcome to our new parents to Chennai and into our AISC community. I know how it feels to be away from home and into a totally new culture. Nevertheless, you will find a lot of warm faces who will help you around whenever needed and make you feel comfortable.

We have a few PTA events coming up this quarter. I would request you all to volunteer and help with your valuable time and input. The more the merrier!

PTA is an organization, but its inner motive is to help us all Connect, Communicate and Contribute with Comradeship.

Lets stay connected in Friendship………

Lakshmi
PTA President 2013

Jan Jamboree

The Charity fair, Jan Jamboree, will be held on Saturday, January 19th, from 2 - 5pm. This year the high school students are coordinating the fair.  The students are organizing the games.  Taj Madras flight kitchen will be selling food.  Additionally, the members of the AISC community are allowed put a stall through which they can sell items such as food, dress, jewelry, arts, books, etc.

There are 2 options for taking a stall.
1. Non-profit: Members involved in any community services who want to raise some funds for their NGO can get a stall free of cost.  They can also keep their collections exclusively for their NGO activities.  A one page write-up about the NGO and the use of collected money should be submitted to the PTA. We would also like to get a receipt from the NGO with the funds donated to them after the sale.
2. For-profit:  Members can get a stall to sell their products for profit.  To get a stall they have to pay Rs 1500 to the PTA and also contribute 10% of the proceeds to the students’ charity fund.

Members interested in getting a stall can send a mail to niksrimathi@gmail.com with their details, NGO details, if any, and the products they are planning to sell. The last date is January 11th. We would like to restrict the number of stalls to 10. So, hurry up and send in your registrations early. If you have any questions you can call me @ 9841445256 or send an email to the above email address.
