FACULTY AND STAFF APPRECIATION DAY:
On the 21st of April school will celebrate and appreciate the beautiful, most important and not always simple work that AISC staff and faculty every day prepare and accomplish with our students.
What a better way then treat them with a special and yummy lunch?
For the occasion we have asked all Countries that like the idea to prepare a typical menu in quantity ideal for around 100 persons and come with us to serve it.
It will be a very nice occasion to see our smiling teachers enjoying the food, celebrating the Diversity and Internationality of our school.
Parents will have the opportunity to contribute with any other idea to make our kids' educators happy.
Let's talk about that with any of us if you wish!

THE FUN never ends in AISC: CABARET will be next on stage!

The biggest show of the year is here! Cabaret 2015 will be as big as ever, with dozens of students performing in more genres than ever before. This year's exciting theme is "Spin Cycle". With vocalists, dancers and rock bands covering dozens of countries and styles, a good time is guaranteed for everybody!

Due to the enormous popularity of Cabaret, the continued growth of our school community and the limited number of seats available in the auditorium, students, parents and other audience members are kindly requested to reserve their seats in advance for Rs.50, available for pickup starting Monday, March 16 at main reception and elementary reception. All students in grades 6-12 are warmly invited to reserve tickets, as are all parents of elementary, middle and high school students. While we love audience members of all ages, this show is appropriate for patrons eight years and older with direct parental supervision.

Cabaret 2015: Spin Cycle is Saturday, March 21 at 7:00pm in the AISC Auditorium. See you there!

ART EXIBITION IN AISC
Greetings,

AISC's Global Issues Network is organizing and participating in an international art awareness project called FREEDOM NOW, sponsored by Guria Swayam Sevi Sansthan, an anti-trafficking organisation. The project allows students to create visual pieces (paintings, photography, and sculptures) on the topic of human-trafficking. These pieces will be showcased during an exhibition at AISC. We asked the students to submit art pieces around the themes such as freedom and hope. The event will be hosted on March 20th, from5:00 - 7:00, where the silent auction starts at 6:00.

I have attached the posters that we will putting around the school, and we were wondering if you could promote the event throughout the parent community so that we can have a large turn out for the silent auction.

Regards,
Lovishniakri Sekaran

March 13, 2015

Dear Parents and Friends,

After the last PCA meeting we received some feedback from some of your Grade Representatives and Country Coordinators.  We appreciate these suggestions to help us empower and improve the daily life of our students on campus...because this is one of our main focuses!

1. Mosquito in some ES washrooms: extra measures will be taken to reduce the annoying presence of these little and dangerous insects!

2. The water dispensers on campus: they were on OFF mode and none could provide fresh water, they are now on ON mode again..and the ones hit by the sun will be hopefully soon moved to the shadey corner!

1001 ARABIAN NIGHTS - The HS Play

Tickets selling are still for sale on at the door for today's show at 5:00 and tomorrow's one at 6:00pm!
If you didn't get your tickets yet don't want to miss the fun there is still time!

Some mature themes - most age appropriate for students ages 9+.

After finding his queen unfaithful, king Shahrayar goes mad. He marries a different woman each night, doing away with her before dawn - so he'll never be betrayed again. Finally he marries Scheherazade, the brave girl who vows to save the women of her kingdom.

Every evening she tells stories to beguile the cruel king till dawn arrives, stopping in the middle so he'll want to hear the rest the following night.

Q. Where is the seat of reason?
Q. What is the origin of creation?
Q. What thing lives in prison and dies when it breaths free air?
&
Q. Will Scheherazade's stories save her life?

All these questions— and more— will be answered.

Using Mary Zimmerman's text as a starting point - AISC's students have freely adapted and re-written the play using music, song, and dance to explore the theme of how the magic of storytelling has the power to change our lives.

Sincerely,

Shawn Thomas O'Docharty / Theatre Director

Nutrition Month Comes to AISC

AISC celebrates the month of March as Nutrition Month.  The campaign is designed to focus attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing healthy eating habits in our students.
Below is a quick list of some activities that are planned:
Guest Chefs: Teachers will have the chance to don a chef coat and join the Taj Madras Flight Kitchen staff in serving meals to students. They will encourage students to make good nutritional choices as they serve up healthy servings of fruits and veggies.
Recipe Contest: Students, parents and staff will have a chance to submit a healthy recipe for the following categories: muffin, pasta, pizza, Asian non-veg, vegetable side dish and quiche/frittata.  The Nutrition Committee will be using a rubric to judge the entries in the following categories:  Nutritional Content, Creativity, Flavor, Availability of Ingredients and Ease of Preparation.
Parents and students may drop their recipe in the boxes found in both Main Reception and Elementary School Reception. Please note that the contest will close on March 9th; we will announce the winners of this contest on March 13th.  Kindly include the students’ name and grade level on the recipe. The winning dishes will be named after the person or family that submitted the recipe; the Taj Madras Flight Kitchen will be preparing the winning dishes in April in the secondary and ES cafeterias.
Fresh Snack Friday: All elementary students will be provided a nutritious snack, courtesy of AISC, on each Friday in March. March 6th and 13th will feature both fruit and vegetable sticks with dip.
Mini-Muffin Monday Morning: The winning muffin recipe will be prepared and served free of charge by the Taj Madras Flight Kitchen.  These will be served on Monday, March 16th to all visitors in the iHub on this day.
Look for posters, banners, videos and surprise performances in the cafeterias.

Please join us in celebrating good nutrition during March at AISC!

Virtual Learning Drill - March 25th

Distance learning for continuity of instruction is a complex process requiring considerable training, alignment, and communication.  To be ready in the event of a forced school closure, AISC must help all stakeholders build capacity to support distance learning.
On March 25th, AISC will host a comprehensive virtual learning drill in which all students PK-12 will stay at home and complete one full day of learning consistent with AISC’s Continuity of Instruction Plan. Teachers will be on campus during this exercise.  All athletics and after-school activities will be cancelled on this day.
To learn more please read more about the event in our full brochure HERE, or read the frequently-asked-questions in a text-only format HERE.
To help parents with their Internet access at home, AISC will host an Internet provider business fair on March 5th and 6th in the Main Entry.

To everybody who loves the beach,

INVITATION TO COME AND JOIN OUR BEACH CLEAN UP
on Sunday March 8, 2015 - from 3.30 pm till 6 pm

The non-profit organization, ‘Namma Beach Namma Chennai’ in collaboration with the ECO CLUB of the American International School of Chennai, will be conducting a beach cleanup this Sunday, March 8th on the AKKARAI Beach between Drift Wood Avenue and Sprakling Sand Avenue from 3.30 pm till 6pm.
The HS children of the Panayur Community High School  and the HS children of the Christian Advent School of Injambakkam are invited to help.

This activity aims to educate the local people about the impact of the environment being polluted and the role that we, the citizens, play in cleaning our beaches.
As an incentive to encourage people to trash their waste and collect waste in the beach, we are partnering with the local ice vendors such as Heritage Ice Cream to provide a free ice cream to each child in exchange of a bag filled with trash or waste.
This collaboration between ‘Namma Beach Namma Chennai’ and the ice vendors intends to advocate eco-friendly behaviors so that people comprehend the need to trash their waste in designated areas instead of throwing it around the beach.
Furthermore, we hope this initiative will advocate the practice of throwing trash in designated areas for a long-term cause and not only during the beach cleanup.
The Chennai Cooperation promised to collect the garbage collected.

Best Regards,

Virginie Vlaminck

Lovishniakri Sekaran, 11th grade student at AISCH
