Middle School Parents

Elementary School Parents
An email went out this morning to the middle school parents concerning the upcoming candidates' visits. We feel that having strong parent participation will help recruit the best Middle School Principal. The candidates’ applications are accessible at the Middle School Parent Moodle Page under the calendar. We suggest reading these applications and taking a little time to speak with your child about their hopes for their middle school to prepare for these sessions. A group of parents has created a list with questions that the candidates will answer and there is free time at the end for open questions. After that the parents can fill out a 2 minutes survey their feedback about the candidates. All meetings will be held in the MS/HS cafeteria at 8:45 - 9:45 a.m. The dates are as follows:
Tuesday, November 20 - Rob
Wednesday, November 21, Alan
Tuesday, November 27, Paul
Friday, November 30, Mike

This information was in last week's HOS notes, but because of its importance, we wanted to include it in our blog as well. Please take the time to look at both of these issues.
Consideration of Changing AISC School Hours
from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
If AISC, started school at 8:00 a.m. (as most local schools do), we would be open for student arrival at 7:30 a.m. and the school day would end at 3:00 p.m. We have assessed that by starting school at 8:00 a.m., the school community would avoid approximately 50% of the local traffic, which starts between 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. (We have made a preliminary decision that starting school before 8:00 a.m. would be too early and too disruptive to family routines and make before school activities too inconvenient.) No matter when we start school, we have to be aware that 500-600 AISC community vehicles will pass through our gates daily.
This consideration is coming from many community concerns about the density of traffic in the area of the school between 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. We recognize that this change would require changes to family routines. These changes would also lead to some changes in the timings of before and after school activities and athletics, and language schools – these details would take account of student needs and get worked out once a decision has been reached to change school timings.
We are seeking your input as we consider this change. Please click here for a quick input survey.
AISC Calendar, 2013-2014
Please take a look at a draft of the 2013-2014 school calendar at Information and Reminders. This calendar has returned the week-long fall break and ends school earlier at the end of the hot season in May by shortening spring break to one week.
Please email Josephine Ronald (Directorpersonnel@aisch.org) or HOS with any feedback.

Please mark your calendars now for the November 27th Parent Tech Connections where we will discuss how learning with iPads is different in many ways than learning with a laptop or desktop. The morning session (8:45-9:45) will be dedicated to iPads in Early Childhood and Elementary, while the afternoon session (2:15-3:15) will focus on iPads with Middle and High School students from the perspective of our 8th grade iPad pilot program.
