PCA Monthly Meeting
Monday, March 2 at 2:00 p.m. in the BBT

Hanbok, the traditional attire of the Korean people, has a history as colorful as the garments themselves. Worn daily up until about a century ago, the Hanbok remains an important icon of Korea. While today the traditional dress is largely worn for ceremonial occasions, modern versions allow for more regular use. Yet, the Hanbok, goes beyond being merely a piece of traditional clothing. Its design element is centered around the Korean fondness for naturalness, desire for supernatural protection and blessings, and the Confucian style dress code. The ladies of the Korean Parents Association will introduce us to  this fascinating piece of their sartorial history that remains an integral part of  Korean society even today.

Do join us at the March PCA Meeting, as the KPA unfold the Hanbok!

SPEEDtrust Tour

Wednesday, March 4, 2020

Our next outing with be on Wednesday, March 4, 2020. We will visit the SPEEDtrust Slum and take a city tour with the female tuk tuk drivers. Highlights of the tour will include the Kapalashwarar Temple and Mylapore Market.

The cost for this tour is Rs 1200 and payment can be made to the cashier.  We will be visiting various temples on this outing so conservative dress is a must. Knees and shoulders will need to be covered. Also, please carry a scarf or dupatta in case extra coverage is needed. You will have to remove shoes at the temples so a pair of socks is also a good idea. The ground can be very hot on bare feet at the Kapalashwarar Temple. Please bring money for lunch and shopping. There will be a chance to purchase items at the Mylapore Market and at the SPEEDtrust facilities.

If you are interested in joining us for this outing, please email ssossitypca@aischennai.org

Join us on Friday, March 6th for this year's edition of Cabaret.

Cabaret is a very special event as it features largely student-led performances that have been conceptualized and designed by the students performing on stage. Do come to join us in celebrating this fantastic student talent on display!

Maker Carnival AISC is free to attend, AISC community event, which will be held on Saturday, March 7th from 10:00 - 3:00.  Maker Carnival takes the form of a “Show, Tell, and Do” experience where makers will have the opportunity to showcase their craft and participants can enjoy learning new skills. It is a family-friendly event full of invention and creativity as well as a celebration of the maker movement.  It’s a place where people can show what they are making and share what they are learning.

For those who have participated in the past, Maker Carnival will look different this year as we invite more students and parents to participate in different ways.  From school clubs to middle school students working on STEAM projects to students of all ages trying different activities, the AISC community will be involved in new and exciting ways this year.

Are you an artist, tinkerer, crafter, or maker of any kind? Maker Carnival is all-new this year so if you are a maker who would like to come to share your talent or craft, please sign up to join us at this fun event. We also need volunteers to run pre-planned activities.  Or just come with your family and participate in this fun event!
