During International Day, the PCA Country Coordinators will share their country with the community by creating a country booth in conjunction with the consulates, families and faculty from their countries. The country booths will offer an activity and a light snack. Families will be free to spend as much time as they like at any country booth. Kids can collect all of countries' stamps in their "InternationalDay Passport". Additional activities will include karaoke, bouncy castles, high school sports in the gym and craft activities.

Taj Madras Flight Kitchen will be providing veggie burgers, hamburgers and dosas, along with salads, desserts and drinks. We are also have tender coconuts available to help beat the heat! All food and drinks are free of charge!

Last year we welcomed 1500 participants, and we hope to have the same turn out this year. To see pictures of last year's event, please see photos here.

She also briefly addressed the taxation of Indian income in the US and UK. If you attended the program, please fill out the short survey here.

Saree Shopping Outing
Monday, September 17

We are entering the busiest time in India, quaintly referred to as “festival season.” Many major holidays are celebrated during this time, including Ganesh Chaturthi, Navratri, Dussehra, and culminating in Diwali. A tradition for Diwali is to buy a new outfit for the celebration. So if you are looking for a new saree, salwar, or lehenga for our Diwali Mela, join us for a shopping trip to Parry’s Corner on Monday, September 17 at 9:00 AM.

We will start our trip with a brief stop at the Jain Temple on Mint Street in the heart of Parry’s Corner. Many of the merchants in Georgetown/Parry’s Corner are Jain, and this temple is centrally located for Jains that live in the heart of old Madras.

After our brief tour of the temple, we will stop at a Swarna Kamal for jewelry shopping and then onto First Lady Shoppee, for selecting the perfect outfit for Diwali. Once our shopping is done, we will walk to Kakada, a Punjabi restaurant, to enjoy a traditional lunch before boarding the bus to return back to school.

If you would like to join us on this outing, please register here.

PCA Social Outings

The parents social activity committee has a lot of wonderful activities planned for the year. Our first outing this year was a shopping trip down ECR to familiarize new parents with the variety of shopping outlets available in Chennai. Thankfully this year we had better weather – no dodging puddles and ducking under awnings to avoid the rain. We started with a quick trip through the fruit market at the top of the ECR near the Thiruvanmiyur bus station. We moved on from here to hit a variety of stores, including Five Star Classic, Terra Earthfoods, Dhanalaxmi Stores, and Tryst CafĂ©. While visiting each store, shoppers were given about 15 minutes to explore the store. The purpose of this trip was not a shopping spree, but rather to familiarize people with the variety of shops available. It can be difficult to find things in Chennai, but with a little bit of knowledge of where to go, it is possible to get just about everything you need. We covered stationary and school supplies, housewares and home goods, fruit and veggie stands, organic shops, and even fabric and upholstery and plant nurseries. After a morning in and out of shops along ECR, we headed to The Farm on OMR for a delicious lunch and stop in their organic and gourmet market before returning to school.
