Diwali Mela
Saturday, October 28, 2017
It's here! We hope to see you tomorrow night from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. for the PCA Diwali Mela. Tickets can be purchased at the door for Rs. 1000. Come join us for the fun and festivities! We will be serving a traditional Indian meal that you can enjoy while watching some amazing performances by some of our AISC students and parents. Our guest performer this year is Koteswari Kannon, a world record holder. Activities include diya painting, mahendi, face painting and temporary tattoos, flower tying, kolum making, and a photo booth sponsored by Chennai Plastic Surgery. There will also be saree tying available for anyone needing help getting their saree just right. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow night, rain or shine!
The PCA Giving Tree
The PCA Giving Tree is a chance for the AISC community to participate in giving gifts to local organizations in need. Last year, our challenges were that the gifts were very specific, some of the requests were difficult to find, and each gift was assigned to a specific tag and if someone took a tag but ended up not purchasing a gift, the money had to come out of the PCA budget to ensure each child received something.
This year, to help make sure that the gift buying is easier and the process of distributing the gifts is less complicated, we are planning to try something different. Each section will have a tree that is focused on a particular theme and will benefit a different organization.
- The Elementary tree will focus on books and we will help build up the library of an orphanage. This way any number of books can be donated, and they can be in English and Tamil. We will also have a table to coincide with the Indian Book Fair so parents can purchase books at the fair and immediately donate them.
- For the Middle School tree we are planning to have a tree themed around the Blue Cross animal shelter. This tree will gather supplies and items as needed to help the Blue Cross.
- The High School tree will focus on sporting goods, which will go to a local school.
We feel this will be the least complicated solution for parents and PCA members and will allow us to benefit three different organizations this year. So, keep your eyes out for the trees in November and watch the PCA blog and PCA information boards for more details.
*And a special thank you to all of you that purchased books for the Giving Tree at the Indian Book Fair.
ES Family Movie Evening
ES Family Movie Evening
Dear Parents,
The PCA and the CIC have teamed up to offer families a fun movie evening! We will be showing the BFG on November 20 after school and will also serve refreshments!
BFG is a humorous novel written by Roald Dahl and was later adapted into a movie. We are hosting this event as a chance to connect students and parents with a great book that they can read together or separately. We also hope to open some discussion on differences and similarities between the book and the movie. Just to note this movie is rated PG (UA in India), which is suitable for upper elementary ages. However, lower elementary kids could also watch this movie with parental discretion. Regardless of the age, all elementary students must be accompanied by a parent during the movie evening.
More details will soon follow about the actual movie evening itself, however, we want to give families adequate time to purchase and read the book if interested before the movie evening takes place. Please note that you don’t have to read the book to come to the movie, but we think it will be a more enjoyable experience if you have had the chance to read it beforehand. A sign-up sheet to attend the movie night will be made available on Friday, November 3rd.
For more details or information on how to order the book, email Sossity Smith (ssossitypca@aischennai.org) or Jet Willette (wjeremy@aischennai.org).
Thank you,
The PCA and the CIC Team
A big thank you to everyone that purchased books or bought raffle tickets at the Namma Beach, Namma Chennai table at the Indian Book Fair. Over 450 books were purchased for the library of the Injambakkam local school.
Choi Soon Ja was drawn as the lucky winner of the raffle and was presented her quilt by Jaeyean Jang in the courtyard on Friday afternoon. The beautiful quilt was made by our own AISC Parent, Margaret Rajan.
Namma Beach, Namma Chennai
This beach cleanup, organised by NHS club from the American School and Namma Beach, Namma Chennai, aims to educate the people about the impact of the environment being polluted and the role
that we play in that. To encourage the kids to pick up trash on the beach, we are giving a free ice cream in exchange of a full bag filled of trash. This year we are partnering with the St. Joseph Secundairy High School of Vettuvankeni. MAKE A DIFFERENCE AND JOIN US ON SUNDAY 29/10 FROM 3 TO 5PM.
