SPEEDtrust Tour
Wednesday, September 20
Our next outing with be on Wednesday, September 20. We will
visit the SPEEDtrust Slum and take a city tour with the female tuk tuk drivers.
Highlights of the tour will include the Kapalashwarar Temple and Mylapore
Market. The festival of Navaratri begins on September 21 and the Mylapore
Market is a good place to pick up Golu dolls. Here is a brief description of
Golu displays, which are common throughout Tamil Nadu:
"On
the first day of Navaratri, following Ganapathi pooja, a
welcoming ritual is performed for goddesses Saraswati, Parvati and Lakshmi by Hindu ritual
called Kalasa Avahanam, which is performed by an elderly male or female of the
family. This is then followed by building a rack of odd-numbered shelves
of Kolu (or Padi) (usually 3, 5, 7, 9, or 11), set
up using wooden planks. After the Kolu has been covered with fabric it is then
adorned with various dolls, figurines and toys according to their size, with
the deities at the top."
Diwali Mela Planning
This year the PCA Diwali Mela will be held on October 28. If you would like to be a part of
the planning committee, Please attend our next planning meeting on Friday,

Hello to All. We will be the T-Nagar area of Chennai. We go to GRT Jewelers in T-Nagar at 136, Usman Road, T Nagar, Chennai, Tamil Nadu 600017. Phone Number: 044 2434 5062. Jewelry in Tamil Nadu is a sight to see. Tamil Nadu, and the Indian Subcontinent has a rich history for purchasing of jewelry. We will be going to the Main Store of GRT Jewelers. We will explore all the different sections of GRT and learn about the different uses, and for what occasion for the different types of jewelry.
We will finish the tour of GRT Jewelry and take part at the buffet at GRT Grand hotel. The restaurant is called The Bazaar, which has different fare of foods that would appease all palates. We have gotten a special price for The Bazaar at Rs.1100/net per person. To make reservations for all of us at The Bazaar, I request you please fill out this form and let me know if you will be staying for lunch.
